RONALD Koeman’s new representatives will meet with Les Reed this week as talks continue over a new contract for the record-breaking boss.

Koeman recently swapped his previous agent Guido Albers, who represents Graziano Pelle, and replaced him with Rob Jansen from the Dutch-based Wasserman agency.

With Koeman currently away on holiday in the Caribbean, Jansen will meet with executive director of football Les Reed to continue talks over a new deal.

Reed revealed that talks are moving on positively, with proceedings now at a point where Saints are “getting down to the detail of the contract, which is where agents and lawyers get involved”.

Koeman’s current contract is up at the end of next season and it seems increasingly likely that the manager will put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

Saints are very keen to keep the former Feyenoord boss after he led them to back-to-back best-ever Premier League campaigns, and into the Europa League for a second successive season.

There is much uneasiness among Saints supporters over extended and drawn-out contract negotiations.

The last few seasons has seen many key players depart as their contracts ran down.

However, if Reed can seal a new contract for Koeman it will likely be hailed as one of the biggest success stories in the club’s recent history.

Of course, there is so much for Reed to sell to Koeman about the club.

After all, star-man Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster have both signed up to long-term deal at St Mary’s.

Although there is no development in Victor Wanyama’s deal, which also expires in the summer of 2017, Koeman will be able to look at his squad with confidence that it won’t be ripped to shreds as it has done in the past.

The first summer Koeman was at Saints in 2014 he had to almost rebuild from scratch as several players left for other Premier League clubs.

His successful recruitment, though, has been a huge part of Saints’ excellent performances over the past couple of seasons.

And if he is able to keep together and build on what he’s already created at St Mary’s then a new contract will certainly seem an attractive prospect.

It will now be done Koeman’s representatives to thrash-out the ins and outs of the deal.
