FORMER Hampshire Cricket captain Shane Warne was back at The Ageas Bowl yesterday - but it was literally a flying visit!

The Australian leg-spinner and English cricket legend Sir Ian Botham landed by helicopter yesterday afternoon to play one hole at the venue's golf course.

The visit was part of the pair's day-long trek across the UK to play 18 holes in 18 counties as part of a charity challenge for Botham's charity, the Beefy Foundation.

They started at County Durham at 6.30am in the morning and finished in Warwickshire at The Belfry. In all, they were aiming to raise around £30,000 for the Foundation.

Warne, who played for Hampshire in 2001 and again between 2004-2007, said: "It's an amazing concept to do this and it's brilliant to raise money for the foundation."

The Beefy Charity Foundation currently supports Brain Tumour Research & Support, Batten Disease Family Association, Cardiac Risk in the Young, Bloodwise, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
