PORTLAND United are back on top of the Sydenhams Premier Division.

With their rivals distracted by the FA Cup, the Islanders took advantage by condemning Fawley AFC to a 3-1 defeat in a windswept encounter at Grove Corner.

An Alex Godfrey brace and a Max Buckler strike earned the three points for the newly-promoted Blues, who have extended their unbeaten league run to five games.

Portland boss Gary Bailey said: “The wind was a real game changer. It made it difficult for both sides, but I’m really pleased with the performance and the result.

The Islanders were given a brief scare when Fawley’s Kieran Roche pulled a goal back with 20 minutes to go and Bailey admitted: “With the conditions, it was a bit nervy. But we saw the game out well and didn’t have many scares.”

Two former AFC Totton men were on target for Lymington Town in their 3-1 Sydenhams Premier victory at Bournemouth Poppies.

Nathan Hurst’s double and a single from Sam House clinched Lymo a 3-1 Victoria Park win, condemning the hosts to their fourth defeat in five league games.

Cowes Sports (Jordan Browne, Max Draper, Jared Wetherick) and Horndean (Joe Richardson, Mark Smith, Nick Tayler) slugged out a 3-3 draw.
