EASTLEIGH'S National League fixture against Oldham Athletic was postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Silverlake Stadium.

In a statement, Eastleigh stated that Oldham had requested a pitch inspection for Saturday's game and the match officials deemed the playing surface to be unplayable.

Eastleigh apologised for any inconvenience to supporters who were affected by the postponement.

Further ticketing information and details regarding the rearranged fixture will be updated in due course.

This round of National League action was severely affected by postponements with eight of the 12 fixtures called off.

It is a blow to the Spitfires who were looking to bounce back from Tuesday's 3-1 FA Cup defeat against Newport County - where they missed out on a fifth-round tie with Manchester United.

They are currently 11th in the division but a win against Oldham would have put them within two points of the Latics, who are sat in sixth position in the table.

Eastleigh are in a fight to make the play-offs and achieve their goal of promotion to the Football League.

The winner of the National League is promoted to League Two, while the teams who finish in positions second to seventh have to go through the play-offs.

Richard Hill's side are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Boreham Wood in the National League before they finish the week with a trip to Altrincham on January 27.
