Furious Bologna deny Ramirez deal

BOLOGNA insist they have not agreed a £12m deal to sell Gaston Ramirez to Saints.

The 21-year-old has said he has agreed a deal to join Saints, but his Italian club, Bologna, are furious as they claim not to have accepted a fee, and are understood to want £16m for the player.

Bologna president Albano Guaraldi today expressed his frustration as he insisted the deal for Ramirez was still some way from being completed.

The wages on offer to Ramirez – which could amount to £60,000-£70,000 a week - are reportedly far above what he earns in Italy, but Guaraldi insists that will not affect Bologna’s negotiations.

“'Ramirez can say whatever he wants and I know he is very angry about this situation,” Guaraldi told the Corriere di Bologna.

“But I am the president of Bologna, and if the deal is only satisfactory to two parties out of three and the third is me, it won’t be done.

“The conditions proposed by the British (Southampton) did not satisfy me: they must either change or Ramirez will remain a Bologna player.”

BBC Sport site quotes:- Bologna president Albano Guaraldi, meanwhile, says the deal for Ramirez is a long way off: "The conditions proposed by the British (Southampton) did not satisfy me: they must either change or Ramirez will remain a Bologna player."

Saints manager Nigel Adkins says: "I think he has come out in Italy and said it is already sorted, but I think you'll find the policy of the football club is until the player has signed on the dotted line and we announce it then really we try to do everything privately."

Looks to be a dead duck, Phillips going to Everton it seems.

Not the club's fault, more a case of other people jumping the gun and announcing something before it has happened. No wonder Saints have the good sense to keep things quiet - or try to - until a deal is done.

Not what we wanted to hear. Fingers crossed still but do not want to miss out on Phillips as well. Last thing we need is a bad reputation in the transfer market. Keeping the faith but hoped this was further along than it now appears!

I can't help feel that Saints skills at handling transfers are falling pretty short, it just seems that deal after deal is falling on problems..... perhaps they need some guidance on how to get things done correctly...perhaps Arsene Wenger could help...

This whole thing has been badly reported; and a timely reminder, not to believe anything until it appears on the official website.

What are Saints playing at this summer? So far we have had an upset Rangers over Davis and his contract, confused Vitesse over Buttner and that debacle, a disgusted Palace over our original offer for Clyne. A furious Holloway over Phillips and now another furious club with Ramirez. It does make you wonder what we are playing at. My biggest worry is Gillingham, when they see Forecast in action!!

Heres hoping for a CB next week. As it stands, we are 1 injury away from fielding Seabourne at City.

Read this. It pretty much confirms what I thought. The agent jumped the gun. Bologna don't have a problem with Saints. Its the player/his agent they are upset with. We do business the right way:

the Uruguay international had claimed earlier in the week that a move to the Premier League side was close to completion after an £11.8 million bid was reportedly accepted by the Serie A outfit.

However, Guaraldi has warned that the move is further away from finalising than currently being reported.

He told Sky Sport 24: “The situation is much more complicated than he thinks. It’s not just about figures, but seeing what is included and what isn’t.”

And the club president went on to claim the bid from Southampton had never been considered and then slammed the player’s agent for his handling of the matter.

“The offer we received has not been considered suitable. His agent has already reached an agreement with the English club, but we haven’t.

“Now the situation is static, we made our demands and will see what happens.

“I don’t understand why Gaston said those things. I won’t even get into the behaviour of his agent.”

The Italian club remain defiant that they will not sell the player unless the €20m (£15.7m) is met, with Guaraldi hinting that interest from a number of other sides had already been rejected.

He continued: “We spoke to the top Italian clubs about Gaston, but I have always been clear: I’d let him go only for a suitable offer, which so far has not arrived. I maintained my consistency and refused the bid.

“I am irritated because one of my players spoke as if he were already at another club, when there still isn’t any agreement.

“I can understand his desire to make the move, but I do not share his timing and methods. All negotiations can collapse, which is why I consider the player’s attitude to be premature.

“The club cannot be forced to follow the rules of players and agents.”

The South American had earlier in the week talked about his excitement at signing for Southampton and shrugged off reports linking him to Inter Milan.

He told Sky Sport Italia: “Inter? There was nothing official. Southampton were the club who decided to sign me and I’m happy that I’ll be going there.”

Possibly. If you can get to Saints' ticket office tomorrow morning you'll be ok, but the home section is sold out and I don't know if there will be away tickets available to buy at the ground. Call them up and ask I guess. It's not like League 1 anymore - my away ticket has a designated seat on it. Weird!

Indeed. Unfortunately footballers are mainly young, overpaid gobshites who will mouth off to anyone who will listen. Sadly, we do need to buy one or two of them so we have to put up with stuff like this. I still think the deal will go through though.

im sure we did ask the players involved in our transfer procedings to be quiet, doesn't mean they will does it? why do we look inept? for not putting up with **** from the buttner deal? or from sealing the davis deal rather than let it be dragged out through and costly tribunal? you cant control things that are out of your hands, what can we do when a player talks out of turn? you cant force someone to keep quiet, we do things on our terms or not at all which is the best way to deal with things, now go back to the armchair you struggled out of and leave transfer dealings to the men who have got us to the premier league

Presidente Bologni can say what he likes and the Echo can choose who ever they like to quote but the fact is that the player is very excitedly blabbing to the Italian press that he is looking forward to coming over to be the centre of the Saints first team.

Nigel Adkins very responsibly only responds to the press article rather than adding fuel to the fire:

He says "I think he (Ramirez) has come out in Italy and said it is already sorted, but I think you'll find the policy of the football club is until the player has signed on the dotted line and we announce it then really we try to do everything privately. We have been consistent with that over the years and we'll probably stay that way.

"If it is true, then it obviously shows the ambition of the football club. I know the chairman, Nicola Cortese, is very ambitious here and it is great.

"We were in administration a few years ago and we've come a hell of a long way in a short space of time.

"To be linked with players as such - and don't forget we broke the transfer record in the summer when we signed Jay Rodriguez - shows we're very ambitious, but likewise we'll cut our cloth accordingly.

"Having been in administration once, the last thing we'll do is end up in that situation again. The club is run very well, very prudently.

"But we're very, very ambitious and having reached the Premier League now, very quickly, we've got to give ourselves an opportunity to do well there."

To me Nigel Adkins is one of the decent honest guys in football and Nicola Cortese is a decent Christian family man at the top of his game in business. Nicola had the trust of Markus Liebherr to the extent that he bought SFC. Now the family of Markus trust Nicola to continue the legacy.

I think I know where my allegiance lies but I just wish a few more fans and local media people showed a bit of gratitude and respect. The things some say and way they say it is sometimes at best shameful drivel.

Trust in Nicola and Nigel for memory of Markus.

One thing I can predict with total accuracy is that if he does end up with us you'll only hear any comment from our club once the deal is signed, sealed and delivered. Which is really the way it should be.

I fear that this shows us what Premier League football is like in 2012 - money has poioned the game far more than in 2005. £70,000 a week is an obscene wage, more than the ANNUAL salary of a distinguished cancer researcher, for example. he Saints "bus" has been a wonderful ride for the last few years, but now it is turning into a bling sports car with 10 litre engine and covered in fins. “The situation is much more complicated than he thinks. It’s not just about figures, but seeing what is included and what isn’t,” said the President on Sky Sport 24.

“The offer we received has not been considered suitable. His agent has already reached an agreement with the English club, but we haven’t. Now the situation is static, we made our demands and will see what happens.

“I don’t understand why Gaston said those things. I won’t even get into the behaviour of his agent.”

Bologna remain adamant they will not release Ramirez for less than €20m, which is around £15.8m.

“We spoke to the top Italian clubs about Gaston, but I have always been clear: I’d let him go only for a suitable offer, which so far has not arrived.

Dan,
Well said.
Everyone has an opinion, that is what this site is about.BUT.
I get so irritated by the so called saints supporters that are constantly negative at just about every move that our Chairman and manager are reported to have made.
Like me they have little or no knowledge about the secretive goings on of the club. That is how it should stay IMO.
I would love to see this quality Ramires lad, playing for Saints.
He is being criticised for opening his mouth to the media.
At 21, he is still a kid, could you keep your mouth closed if you had been offered a fortune and under pressure from the professional media for news, at his age?I bet he couldn't contain his excitement.
Probably wont happen now but just shows to where our great team have travelled since it's nigh-on collapse.
Keep up the good work Saints.
COYR.
I see no reason the gap between the offer and asking price couldn't be negotiated. Just as you point out the lad really wants it to happen for himself and his family. Passions run high in Italy but Nicola is Italia and if anyone can bring the lad back to SMS he can. Confidentiality is everything in Italian Banking and that fact will mean a lot to the President of Bologna.

In the preview of the PL by Tony Cascarino in the Times today Nigel Adkins is described as an intelligent, astute, manager who has guided Southampton back to the top flight.

Nicola Cortese, however, is described as a bit of a hot head and the opening run of fixtures may result in Nigel being the first manager to be sacked in the PL.

Let's hope, regardless of the results in the first 4-6 games Tony Cascarino is proven to be wrong.

I think the Echo's problem is they print stories without putting the leg work in and doing research to check the legitimacy of the story. This in turn damages the clubs reputation. I would like the Echos employees to just tell the truth rather than constantly spreading rumours and lies in the hope of selling a few more papers. The Echo is far from the paper it used to be.

There is no story going around anywhere that hasn't come from the various versions on this story run by the media..

Share a source that Nicola Cortese or the Bologna President has broken off negotiations... ???

This young lad shot his mouth off but sense would put it down to passion and joy for his family etc.. he isn;t the first and won't be the last. The gap is small and if our Chairman sees this player as the heart of our future midfield then my guess is he'll close the gap and send the player straight to Nigel for first team duty asap.

I;d love to agree with you but do the facts support your claims? Buttner was lost over very little and indeed we could have got him for a million less than Utd paid for him. Ramirez is even worse as his registration was owned by two clubs and rules are such here that Saints would have to acquire both interests complicated by the Bolonha President wanting to sell to Spurs on the back of the Modric transfer. So no chance never was one either.Welcome to Europe!!!

Didn't think this was going to happen.
Saints ain't ready for this just yet.
Happy to be proved wrong.
I hope you ARE proved wrong, but I don't think any of us have the knowledge to make an accurate assessment.

One thing I can predict with total accuracy is that if he does end up with us you'll only hear any comment from our club once the deal is signed, sealed and delivered. Which is really the way it should be.

(And, frankly, if that way of doing business annoys montecristosaint, then I'm all for it on that basis alone)
you obviously dont speak any foreign languages at all or youd be a lot more clued up as to what is going on. For your information the Ramirez deal has collapsed as Bolonha wont agree to Saints payment terms. it never stood a chance anyway explain why because two clubs own his registration which may explain why why Ramirez let it be known that a deal with Saints had been agreed as a means of putting pressure on Bolonha.Welcome to the real world some of you who see the club through rose tinted spectacles.NC cannot have obtained an option from Penarol to buy their 30 per cent and Bolonha ran rings round him thereafter. Before you ask I have a connection with an international law firm so yes I do know what I am talking about.Having said this I am sure NC is trying but it would be amazing of he pulled this off. It could run and run like the Tevez saga did. Or Spurs may not sell Modric in which case Bolonha might backtrack who knows. I dont rate this deal at all to be honest.
