Former Saints target set to sign for Man United
7:59pm Sunday 19th August 2012

Former Saints target Alexander Buttner is on the verge of joining Manchester United.
According to reports in Holland, the 23-year-old Vitesse Arnhem left-back has flown to England today to undergo a medical with United tomorrow ahead of penning a five-year contract.
Buttner was quoted as saying in Omroep Gelderland : "This is truly a dream come true. It all went very quickly and I am of course very happy."
Saints had agreed a deal for the player earlier this summer, only for a move to subsequently fall through.

I know this will be unpopular but I am out clean out of patience with Cortese. His overall record over transfers at Saints looks a joke. He has screwed up one deal in Switzerland last year, and has followed that up by making a mess of the Buttner deal and to make matters worse the player is now joining Man U.The Davis deal also nearly did not happen as Cortese had not done his home work re the Rangers situation. He has now made the mother and father of a shambles of the Ramirez transfer which is all but lost because the player was misled into believing the clubs had agreed a fee. If I were the Liebherrs I''d be worrying about my investment as clearly Saints need to spend money in key areas if they are to stay up this season. And by money I dont mean a net 3M which in Premiership terms is laughable bearing in mind the club will receive fifty million just for going up to the Premiership. Too many fans that write here are complacent and have a blind faith in Cortese purely because of his connection with Liebherr. It is however doubtful that had Liebherr stayed alive that we would have seen such inertia from the Saints management. Would it be too much to ask for more transparency in their dealings as currently it looks as if the club is disinterested in public relations even though they must be aware of fans concerns. Why put the achievement of the last two years at risk?? sheer stupidity in my view and short sighted in the extreme. Apologies to the in NC and NA we trust brigade we will have to agree to disagree.

Nicola has set his boundaries so everyone knows where we stand. Some of it we may find unpalletable but I would rather prudent, targeted spending and, don't forget this is a private business, so yes making as much money as possible to make us secure. I'd like to think it is a long term strategy that includes Nigel peraps 'doing a Moyes' It is impotant to have alternative opinions on here but the transfer complanits you have reitterated do not stand up to scruitiny. You appear to want bankrolling to the billions and a machine gun approach to signings a la chelsea and man city. That is not sensible, sustainable (witness pompey) or desireable. In Na and NC I trust? Yes because I have seen nothing to make me think otherwise. We'll see what post city tansfers bring - please try to enjoy it!

I can find little to criticise in monte's post, but I am sure that like me he inwardly hopes we are wrong. What ever the authors of some of the abusive responses to his post believe, both he and I are saints supporters, and it is frustrating to see the falling through of so many so called proposed signings - Buttner, Ramirez, and on the edge Phillips of Blackpool.
Respect other people's opinions, even if you don't agree with them. Telling someone to 'shut up' because of their viewpoint simply illustrates your own ignorance.

Doesn't come across like that, but that's just my opinion.
Dear God! Montecristosaint wrote a very reasonably argued opinion to which he is entitled! I tend to agree with his sentiments, and I have said for some time that Cortese and Adkins appear to be out of their depth negotiating deals at this level. I have seen nothing yet to alter my view on that.
