England under-21 boss Gareth Southgate says he is pleased with James Ward-Prowse’s effort for his side, despite the Saints midfielder being banned for tonight’s Euro qualifier in Moldova.
Both Ward-Prowse and teammate Nat Chalobah picked up their second cautions of the campaign in last week’s 1-0 win over Lithuania, meaning they have to sit out tonight’s game.
Southgate, though, is happy with their efforts.
“They’ll miss the next game, but we’ve got a squad with us so it’s fine," said Southgate, whose side have already won their qualifying group.
“I’m pleased with what they’ve both done and I want to look at different players against Moldova anyway.”
