FORGOTTEN Saints striker Emmanuel Mayuka has been told to leave St Mary’s in order to protect his international career.

The 23-year-old was one of Zambia’s star performers when they won the 2012 African Nations Cup.

A few months later he joined Saints for around £3m from Swiss side Young Boys.

Mayuka only made one Premier League start in his debut 2012/13 season – plus ten sub appearances – and spent last season on loan at French top flight club Sochaux.

There he managed just four goals in 21 games, and the summer signing of Graziano Pelle has pushed him down the pecking order under Ronald Koeman.

Mayuka, who has been linked with Wolves, has yet to play a competitive game for Saints in 2014/15 and Zambian boss Honour Janza has reportedly said the player must be playing regular first team football to be considered.

“If he can quickly move to where he can play that will be good,” Janza said. “What is important for a player is to have game time. We are worried with our pros, most of them are not playing.”
