David Howell struck a second half leveller against the reigning Premier League champions after Nicolas Anelka had put the hosts into a half-time lead.

Saints were beaten at Ninian Park by a Steven Thompson strike six minutes from time.

2009 Oldham 1 Saints 3 (Hammond, Lambert, Connolly).

Dean Hammond, with his first goal for the club, and Rickie Lambert put Saints in command with goals inside the opening 23 minutes at Boundary Park. Sub David Connolly added a third eight minutes from time in this League 1 encounter.
