Ronald Koeman insists Saints won’t take their foot off the gas in the wake of their 8-0 win over Sunderland.

The Saints boss saw his side thump the Black Cats this weekend but has been quick to ensure it was straight back to work in preparation for the visit of Stoke at the weekend.

“It gave us a lot of attention and positive publicity and it is nice to live in that but I am a long time in football and it’s always difficult after that kind of result because you have to prepare yourself for the next one,” said Koeman.

“What is in the past doesn’t count any more.

“It will be difficult against Stoke this Saturday.”

Saints have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game and Koeman added: “I think it’s a difficult team to beat because they bring a lot of physical qualities, they are strong in defence.

“They are one of the teams very dangerous at set pieces.

“Everybody knows Crouch and plays long balls and second balls and you need a lot of attention but we play at home and we have to do our game and we like to play our way and that gives the players a lot of confidence.

“We have to realise it’s another game.”

Koeman also denied reports that the club have an interest in former Liverpool midfielder Dirk Kuyt after being linked with the Dutchman this morning.
