Toby Alderweireld will not be fit enough to face West Brom this weekend – but should be back for next week’s game with Crystal Palace.

The Belgian defender has been missing since January with a hamstring injury sustained in the win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Saints had hoped he would be available again for Saturday’s game at The Hawthorns but that it not going to be possible.

However, he should be ready to take on Crystal Palace at St Mary’s on Tuesday night.

Other than that and his long term absentees, Ronald Koeman finally has a fully fit squad to pick from.

“Toby Alderweireld is close to be back but still not available for this weekend but we have good hope he will be fit enough for next Tuesday after Saturday and that is good news that he is very close to be back,” said Koeman.

“It is always frustrating for everybody, for the manager as well because you like to have everybody available, really competition between the players in your squad, but it’s the last player who has to come back out of Jay Rodriguez and Mayuka, but we know that story.

“He will come back and be available for the team.”

Sadio Mane will also be available for selection again after being dropped from the starting line-up for the defeat against Liverpool after turning up late to St Mary’s.

“Yes of course (he has been forgiven),” insisted Koeman.

“I punished the player because that’s one of the rules and the instructions that we have with the players.

“Every player is allowed to come one day late on a training session and that’s no problem but to play you have to be on time.

“That was on that day and after that day it’s like before and that’s no problem.

“He understands it.

“I spoke to Sadio before the game and he understood the reason why.”
