NO ARMY can march on an empty stomach – and now one Saints fan is offering to help the team march into Europe.
Hampshire chef and lifelong Southampton fan Jay Geddes is offering to cook personalised meals for Saints’ top goalscorer and player of the season.
It comes as the Daily Echo backs the #WeMarchOn campaign with Saints pushing for a place in Europe next season.
Graziano Pelle is currently Saints' top goal scorer
The 31-year-old works as head chef at Gatehouse Grill in Harbour Parade and is also a personal chef for celebrities and high profile figures like Beyonce, Rhianna and even the royal family.
Like other Saints fans, Jay is biting his fingernails as Ronald Koeman’s side try to break into the top four and gain a place in the Champions League.
But with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United all vying for that all-important third and fourth spots, he is hoping his offer of a free personalised meal will be an extra incentive for the team to re-capture their magical early-season form.
Jay, who lives in Ocean Village, said: “I’ve always loved to work with food and I’ve done so in some amazing places and for some incredible people.”
“Now I’m looking forward to putting my skills to good use by doing all I can to provide added incentive for an increase to Saints’ goal tally.”
He said that should he cook for Saints’ current leading goalscorer Graziano Pelle, he will offer a five-course Italian menu, while if Sadio Mané keeps up his impressive form, he will cater his menu to suit the Senegalese star’s tastes.
Mr Geddes, added: “People come to me and they trust me to give them an amazing dining experience, and I will gladly offer my services to whomever has scored the most goals by the end of the season.
“They can use me to cook them a celebratory meal in their home for friends and family – or they can donate my offer to charity.
Jay began his career in private catering before moving on to cook at restaurants both in the UK and abroad.
His many achievements include working as the founding chef at the city’s Turtle Bay restaurant.
