HE IS the Saints footballing legend known to millions of fans in England.

As well as his time with Saints “Le God” is also loved by supporters across Britain who tune in and listen to his TV punditry every week.

But now Southampton hero Matt Le Tissier is proving a hit on the other side of the world – with his picture emblazoned on an Australian city street.

Lifelong Saints fan Eamonn Breen – who travels home every year and attends games at St Mary’s – was stunned to find that his son Luke had painted a picture of him alongside Le Tiss on an alleyway wall.

The artwork was a surprise from Eamonn’s son Luke, who had flown more than 2,000 miles from his Melbourne home, to decorate the wall in Perth in honour of his dad’s 60th birthday.

Mr Breen, who is originally from Southampton and went to Bitterne Park Secondary School, is one of the club’s loyal supporters and despite living thousands of miles away – still averages attending at least two games every season.

Luke, 28, who lives in Melbourne, flew 2,100 miles to Perth to paint the picture.

Eamonn, said: “I had no idea he was going to do that. He just sent me a text and it said ‘come down to this street and you will see a picture of you and Matthew Le Tissier’. I thought he was joking.

“The next day I drove down there and I was absolutely amazed. I could not believe it.”

Eamonn, who has thrown his weight behind the #WeMarchOn campaign as the Saints push forward for a place in Europe next season, has lived in Australia since 1987.

He works as a manager of a sales and distribution team for Michelin and lives in Perth.

He has followed the fortunes of Ronald Koeman’s impressive Southampton side closely and is overjoyed with how this season has gone.

Eamonn, added: “I keep up to date with everything. I follow and watch all the games and read the Daily Echo online every night.

“It would be great if we get to Champions League football, but my gut feeling is Saints will finish sixth.

“It has been a brilliant season especially after what happened in the summer.”
