Dani Osvaldo has finally had his contract terminated by Saints.

Here, the Daily Echo has charted his turbulent time at St Mary's, headbutts and all.

August 18, 2013: Amidst much fanfare Osvaldo, already carrying a bad-boy reputation after punching Roma team-mate Erik Lamela, became Saints’ club-record signing for an initial £12.9m – potentially rising to £14.6m – after arriving from the Stadio Olimpico.

August 26, 2013: Osvaldo made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at St Mary’s in the Premier League. He was deployed as a second-half substitute by manager Mauricio Pochettino and was lucky to escape a red card after two wild tackles.

September 28, 2013: After three starts against Norwich, Liverpool and West Ham, which failed to yield a goal, the Argentina born, Italian international found the net in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at St Mary’s.

December 7, 2013: A gap of four games without finding the net ended after Osvaldo netted in a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa at St Mary’s. Three days later came his best moment in an otherwise disastrous spell in Hampshire. Osvaldo scored a stunning chipped goal that suggested he was starting to fire on all cylinders at St Mary’s.

January 3, 2014: Osvaldo, who also played for Atalanta, Fiorentina, Bologna, Espanyol and Lecce in Europe as well as others in South America, was banned for three matches and fined £40,000 just months into his Saints career after he reacted angrily to a nasty tackle in stoppage time at Newcastle.

January 23, 2014: Then came the shameful moment that marked the end of his Saints career. A training ground incident saw the 29-year-old headbutt team-mate Jose Fonte, leading to a two week suspension for “breach of conduct”. He was also fined two weeks’ wages – around £120,000.

January 31, 2014: Saints set about getting rid of Osvaldo before the end of the January transfer window and, after 13 appearances, three goals and a headbutt to his name, Osvaldo sealed his “dream” move to Italian giants Juventus on loan, with an option to buy him permanently for around £15.6m.

August 6, 2014: After winning Serie A with Juventus, but not playing any major role, Osvaldo was carted off to Inter Milan on a season-long loan, with Saints not wanting him back despite a player exodus. Algerian international Saphir Taider came in the opposite direction on a temporary deal to Saints, but, within a month, was sent backed to Italy.

January 6, 2015: Following six goals in 17 games for Inter, Osvaldo found himself once more in hot water after failing to turn up to training for two days running. Inter slapped a suspension on him.

February 10, 2015: After falling out with manager Roberto Mancini and Mauro Icardi at Inter, Osvaldo once again left a club with drama swirling around him.

February 12, 2015: Osvaldo headed back to Argentine where he signed for Boca Juniors on loan, making it a trio of loan deals since leaving St Mary’s.

February 26, 2015: The Italian international was almost immediately involved in controversy on his arrival at Boca. The striker was accused of sneaking women into the team’s hotel before a game against Temperley. He was named in several Argentine news sources as the ringleader of a "fiestita" (little party) organised with four teammates and two female guests.

June 4, 2015: Boca Juniors announce they have no intention of signing Osvaldo after he scored seven times in 15 games for his boyhood club.

July 1, 2015: Saints finally cut their losses on the striker and terminated his contract.
