Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Victor Wanyama has been left of the Saints squad to face Norwich today because he is not “mentally and physically good enough to play.”

The Kenyan midfielder has reportedly told Saints he wishes to leave the club during this transfer window with Tottenham interested in signing him.

Wanyama missed the trip to Denmark in midweek with a stomach infection, but it is understood he could have been involved in today’s squad.

Former Saints boss Mauricio Pocehttino is keen to sign Wanyama before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, but St Mary’s officials have repeatedly insisted they have no intention of selling him.

After Thursday night’s Europa League exit in Denmark, Koeman said that Wanyama had not at that point asked to leave the club, and also denied reports in Kenya that suggested the midfielder was refusing to play until his future was resolved.

It is understood that Tottenham have yet to table a formal offer for Wanyama.
