STEVEN Davis wants to set the record straight when Swansea City come to St Mary’s in the Premier League tomorrow.

Last season a late sucker-punch goal from Jonjo Shelvey was enough to defeat Saints 1-0 when Garry Monk’s team visited in February.

Ronald Koeman’s side had dominated the match, but failed to make their pressure tell.

Davis wants to make sure Saints don’t make the same mistakes this time around and erase any lingering memory of that game.

“It won’t be easy because they’re (Swansea) a very good side,” the Northern Irishman explained. “That (the Shelvey goal) is the one lasting memory from the game last season.

“We kind of dominated it, but couldn’t seem to get ourselves in front, and then Shelvey scored the winner.

“We can put that right on Saturday.”

Koeman’s side have been defeated twice and won once at home so far this league campaign and the 30-year-old is eager to restore St Mary’s as a fortress, insisting the team are getting better with each game.

“It’s important that we get back to that,” the midfielder said. “That’s been one of the frustrations from the start of the season.

“But I think every game we’ve had you can see the performance levels getting better.

“It was always going to take a little bit of time when you’ve got new players coming in, to let them adapt and see how the manager and everyone works.

“Hopefully we can continue to see that progression and go on and get a consistent run of results.”

The former Rangers player has been impressed by the way Monk, the ex-Saints defender, has fared since swapping playing for management at the Liberty Stadium at the age of just 34 in February 2014.

“They’ve got a similar philosophy to us,” Davis said. “It’s always hard for a player to go into management and make that transition.

“He (Garry Monk) seems to have adapted to it very well and he’s got Swansea playing some good football, they’re definitely a threat.”

Davis has some faith that the 6-0 thrashing of MK Dons in the Capital One Cup third-round will act as a catalyst for a good run of form.

“We started the game really well,” he said about the Wednesday night mauling of the Championship side.

“It was an enjoyable game to play, we played some nice stuff and scored a number of goals, so we’ll obviously take confidence from that belief into Saturday.”
