LIVERPOOL are moving closer to appointing Jurgen Klopp as their new manager – meaning his first Premier League home game in charge of the Reds would be against Southampton.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp is the first choice to replace Brendan Rodgers, after he was sacked last Sunday, and negotiations have already begun with the charismatic 48-year-old.

Liverpool are said to be confident he will agree to a deal and are hoping to confirm the appointment by the end of the week.

Should that happen, Klopp’s first match would be the trip to Tottenham on Saturday, October 17.

He would then oversee a Europa League game at home to Russian club Rubin Kazan before welcoming Saints to Anfield on Sunday, October 25.

Klopp left Dortmund at the end of last season, following a seven-year spell in which he won two Bundesliga titles and a German cup, while also guiding the team to the final of the Champions League in 2013.
