LONG-Term transfer target Nathan Redmond has completed his switch from Norwich to Saints in a deal believed to be worth £10m.

The attacking midfielder signs a five-year contract and becomes the club's first summer signing.

Saints have admired Redmond for some time and have now lured him from Carrow Road.

“I’m really pleased to have made the move to Southampton,” Redmond said. “It’s a fantastic football club with excellent facilities, and I really feel I can develop my game here.

“The club’s style of play has always been excellent. They like to play attacking football and it’s a style I feel I can really fit in well with.

“When Southampton said they were interested it felt like the right move for me, and I can’t wait to get started now.”

Executive director of football Les Reed said: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome Nathan to Southampton Football Club.

“Despite being just 22, Nathan has gained plenty of experience in the Premier League with Norwich City, showing his quality at the top level on a consistent basis.

“He has also performed exceptionally well on the international stage, playing a key role in helping England Under-21s win the Toulon Tournament this summer.

“While Nathan has already gained Premier League experience, he has the potential to continue developing and becoming an integral part of the squad for years to come.”

It follows on from a failed bid in 2014 after the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League.

Norwich will once again play Championship football next term after another demotion campaign in the top-flight, which has partly led to Saints rekindling their interest in the wide man.

The deal for Redmond does not represent any offsetting of a potential departure for Sadio Mane, who has been subject of intense interest from Liverpool.

Instead Redmond is simply someone Saints have long wanted to join their ranks.

As was reported by the Daily Echo two weeks ago, Saints intended to push ahead with the transfer for the 22-year-old despite currently being managerless.

Although that situation could change very soon, with Claude Puel remaining firm favourite to be appointed before many players return to pre-season training on July 4.

The England under-21 international, who recently won the Toulon Tournament alongside Saints men James Ward-Prowse, Matt Targett and Jack Stephens, scored six goals in the Premier League last term in 35 appearances.

Redmond returned from holiday recently to start talks with Saints and completed his medical and signed a deal until 2021 today.

Mane meanwhile is being chased by Liverpool, with Saints reportedly holding out for £40m for the Senegal international.
