SADIO Mane will have a medical at Liverpool today ahead of a record-breaking move from Saints worth more than £30m.

The fee Saints will receive is £34m, rising to £36m with add-ons, and in turn St Mary's will rake in a healthy profit on one of their prized - albeit inconsistent - assets.

The deal is set to be announced on Tuesday.

As has been documented on these pages, the Reds have made Mane their prime transfer target this summer as Jurgen Klopp begins to mould his team ahead of his first full season.

They now appear to be close to a deal after the clubs agreed on how much Anfield will have to shell out in return for the rapid and unpredictable attacker.

It had been said that Saints would not be willing to let the 24-year-old, who they bought from Red Bull Salzburg in a deal worth around £10m in 2014, for less than £40m.

However, after several weeks of talks, Saints have agreed to drop just below that asking price.

The £34m deal would still represent a handsome profit for Saints, and make Mane the most expensive player ever sold by the club.

Mane, who scored 11 league goals last season - including three against Liverpool - will become Klopp's fourth signing after agreeing deals for midfielder Marko Grujic, centre-back Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius.

He is the fifth player in the last three seasons to swap St Mary's for Anfield after Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne all made the same move to the north-west.

Mane will become Liverpool's second most expensive signing after Andy Carroll (£35m) through the initial £34m outlay.

All three Saints players who have scored a league goal at Anfield since the start of the 2013/14 season have now been signed by the Reds - Mane, who scored in a 1-1 draw last October, following on from Lovren (2013/14) and Clyne (2014/15).

The high transfer fee can be considered a victory for Saints, with Mane having gone through long periods of inconsistency during his two-season spell.

Last term he went four months without a goal and was dropped for disciplinary reasons by Ronald Koeman after showing up late to a team meeting before a miserable 1-0 defeat at Norwich.

He was pictured on Monday afternoon giving a thumbs up on leaving Liverpool hospital following his medical.
