SAINTS are set to sign Bayern Munich starlet Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a deal worth £12m, according to his agent.

The Danish midfielder is said to be frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities with the German giants, who won the Bundesliga last season.

And intermediary Soren Lerby was quoted as saying his client will move to St Mary's.

He reportedly said: "Yes, I can confirm that Pierre will switch to Southampton."

Hojbjerg, 20, spent last season on loan at Schalke, making 23 appearances.

The Denmark international was dubbed the new Sergio Busquets by Pep Guardiola in his first season at Bayern.

He also spent the second half of the 2014/15 campaign on loan at FC Augsburg.

The box-to-box midfielder certainly suits Saints' policy of signing young and hungry players.

"I want to leave and find the right place for me. I need to find something that fits me," Hojbjerg told Danish newspaper BT at the end of last season.

He added: "I look in every direction. It's about finding the right place. It'll show whether that's in Spain, Italy, England or Germany."

Winger Nathan Redmond is the first signing of the season after joining from Norwich City.
