Claude Puel will step up his efforts to recruit more new faces as Saints return to England.

The new St Mary’s boss led some of his squad over to America for a pre-season training camp, which doubled as a useful commercial trip as Saints cement their partnership with Baltimore based Under Armour.

After one low key friendly in the States, Saints are now back on home soil ready for a solid few days of training ahead of the tour to Holland.

But one of the top priorities will be pushing things on in the transfer market.

It is understood that Saints remain happy and relaxed about the squad they already have in place, and they believe they have seen the major departures they expected all wrapped up nice and quickly.

They have also recruited Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Nathan Redmond early in the pre-season campaign.

That is not going to be the end of the action though in terms of incomings, and with Puel back in England it is set to accelerate things further.

Saints are keen to ensure the manager has the maximum amount of time possible to work with fresh faces, but are also adamant that they won’t pay over the odds to make that happen.

With two top quality options in each position currently in the ranks, there is felt to be little need to act drastically in the transfer market.

However, that doesn’t mean Saints won’t attempt to continue their normal, prudent building programme.

The club are keen to secure another attacking right back, while there is the chance an attacking player could come in as well.

While the club have no plans to replace Graziano Pelle with Charlie Austin having already been recruited for that purpose, they could move for a more deep lying creative talent to complement what they already have.

As the squad return to Staplewood, Puel will welcome four of Saints’ Euro 2016 players back in the shape of Shane Long, Steven Davis, Ryan Bertrand and Fraser Forster, who were given extra time off after their involvement in France.

The only players missing are Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares, who have been given a further extension due to their involvement up to and including the final.
