SOUTHAMPTON’S most successful ever manager Lawrie McMenemy today turns 80.
The man who led Saints to their famous 1976 FA Cup win as well as finishing second in the top division will celebrate with wife Anne and his friends and family having become a pillar of the community since settling in Braishfield.
Lawrie, who enjoyed a long and distinguished career in football, which included working with the England team and managing Northern Ireland, is also well known for his extensive charity work, helping to raise funds for countless good causes down the years.
He was awarded an MBE in 2006 and was also given the Freedom of the City.
He still writes a weekly Lawrie Mac column for the Daily Echo.
