IT was a day Saints fans will never forget.
The day began with a bizarre own goal from Sunderland's Santiago Vergini and ended with a late strike from Sadio Mane.
In between there was still time for another own goal from Liam Bridcutt and Jack Cork, Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Victor Wanyama all found the net for Saints.
Southampton fans will be hoping that Claude Puel's side will manage a similar performance when Sunderland arrive at St Mary's this weekend.
The 8-0 thrashing of the Black Cats was the first time Saints had won by such a stunning margin in nearly a century.
