THERE were letters published from UKIP supporters, claiming I am wrong, to suggest they no longer have any importance. Indeed, I say UKIP has destroyed Britain, with help of the Conservatives.

And yet The European Union will always be our closest neighbours.

The Commonwealth wanted us to remain members. Some say democracy was shown that people here have decided we are to ‘leave’ the EU. And yet they were lied to.

That is not democracy, it was a con.

We were not asked to approve of Prime Minster May or her policies. Again that was not democracy.

For information of those UKIP writers who also mentioned a decline within the Liberal Democrats. Since the EU Referendum, the Liberal Democrats have 17,000 new members. Some of those are from the New Forest.

Indeed, the party is on a 10-year high.

Whilst UKIP has one MP, and they have 22 MEPs still drawing large salaries, have given themselves the sack. That is not democracy. It is a waste of our money. I will also remind readers, we have not left the European Union.

If the people of England, Wales and Northern Ireland do – as they have in Scotland, where the SNP with an overwhelming majority – provide backing to the Liberal Democrats, they will hold the majority.

We could then ensure we do not leave the EU, but as wanted, change the terms of our membership. I fully agree free movement does not work and there has to be passport control between all member countries so that we know where citizens are at any one time. My feeling is that the other members would accept that as being reasonable.

If we drag this issue out until the General Election in 2020, it will be all too late.

I have read that well over one million people say they would have voted Remain, instead of Leave, knowing now they were mislead. And perhaps the 28 per cent who did not vote may now wish they had.

I am not a sore loser, as suggested. More than 16 million people agreed we ought to Remain – 48 per cent.

Imagine if all 48 per cent became centre ground Liberals, working, alongside the SNP, we could retain our United Kingdom, and stay in the EU.

As members of the Liberal Democrats, you can decide upon policy. Now that is democracy.
