WELL, I said on August 16 in the letters online comment section that if the Echo printed another diatribe from R Grant I will cease taking it.

Well on August 17 August they printed yet another, so after more than 50 years of first delivering then reading it, today will be my last.

As they say, if you don’t like a TV programme switch it off, so I’m doing that with the Echo. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m an ardent believer in free speech. But this daily onslaught from Mr Grant droning on about the same subject goes beyond free speech and becomes a political rally.

The letters section should be lively, thought provoking and stimulating. It should be a case of print, discuss, move on.

I’m sure Southampton and Bournemouth fans would love an FA rule change that stated if they lose a game it will be replayed until they win. Remember democracy is “a system of government in which power is vested in the people, who rule through freely elected representatives”.

Jean Claude Yonkers and his cronies are neither elected or accountable. I will never know if this letter gets printed, goodbye Echo.
